LEIGHA MEREDITH
Leigha is a passionate lover of the trees and soil, from the expansive Midwest prairies and pennyroyal region of Kentucky to the lush upland rainforests of Hawai‘i Island. She is a visual artist, performer, fine craftswoman, and gardener— celebrating a liberated, embodied existence in community with the Land. Leigha found a passion for bridging science and art while studying ecology and dipping into life drawing as an outsider. Always carrying a notebook into the field, recording wildlife sightings and environmental conditions became an educational tool and spiritual practice in one. Since then, she has self-taught a variety of illustration mediums through experimentation with sustainable and foraged materials. Her process is hot and impulsive— burning meticulous scientific illustrations into salvaged scrap wood or flowing dreamy landscapes with an imperfect brushstroke of melted beeswax. Leigha also welds the disciplines of classical ballet and competitive strongman into a lifestyle of performance, embracing the full spectrum of human expression and physicality.
